Affordable housing in Westchester County is scarce. The cost of living is high, pay for service jobs is low, and even working families sometimes need to choose between buying groceries and paying their rent. As a result, many individuals and families are forced to live doubled up or in overcrowded conditions; some eventually become homeless… a devastating experience, especially for children.
You may be surprised to learn that on any given night, there are almost 2,000 homeless men, women and children right here in Westchester County, one of the most affluent counties in the country.
SHORE / I CARE is committed to eliminating homelessness by providing affordable, permanent housing for families to help them get back on their feet. We do this through the acquisition and renovation of residential properties, or through the construction of new housing. SHORE/I CARE also supplies donated furniture and appliances to families moving into their new homes.
Social services are made available to families in SHORE/I CARE rental units to help them with budgeting, parenting, housekeeping, and other issues to ensure that their transition back to normal life in the community is successful.
Our ultimate goal is to lift Westchester’s most vulnerable families from poverty and homelessness to a life of greater self-sufficiency . . . but we can’t do it without you! Will you help?
We’d love to have you join us on July 11 for our Mid-Summer Dinner at the Orienta Beach Club to support and celebrate the important work of SHORE/I CARE and to learn more about our work.
